One mm, or one nm

… or the thickness of an atom?

Des Menschen Seele ist in ihrem Leibe nur durch eine gar dünne, mit de rallgemeinen Lebensintelligenz in keiner Verbindung stehenden Wand getrennt, und das genügt, daß sie in ihrem natürlichen Zustande zumeist gar keine Ahnung nur von dem hat, was oft zunächst, als hinter ihrem Rücken, ist und geschieht, und auch nicht einmal den tausendmal tausendsten Teil von dem begreift, was vor ihren Augen ist und vorgeht. Und das macht alles die höchst dünne, obbezeichnete Scheidewand zwischen ihrem und dem allgemeinsten endlosen Raumleben.

Man’s soul — in his body — is separated by a rather thin wall, which stands in no contact with life’s public intelligence. And this suffices, that she — in her natural state— mostly has no inkling of what, kind of like behind her back for starts, is and happens. Neither does she take hold of even the thousand times thousandth part of what exists and goes on before her eyes. This all causes the highly thin partition, spoken of above, between her specific life in space, and the eternal public life in space.
